Mutual of Omaha Foundation 2021 Community Investment Numbers
(OMAHA, Neb.) – Last year, the Mutual of Omaha Foundation granted more than $5 million to 120 local nonprofit organizations. Operating with a mission to break the cycle of poverty and invest in projects that strengthen the Omaha metropolitan area, the organization provided grants that focused on basic needs, adult self-sufficiency and youth development.
"This past year, our refugee grantees experienced heightened needs,” said Gail Graeve, executive director of the Mutual of Omaha Foundation. “While navigating the on-going pandemic, our community experienced an unexpected surge in refugees. Supporting their efforts, we responded with increased investments made by our Foundation and the corporation. In addition to financial support, we also committed our time by serving on community-based committees designed to support refugee-led and refugee organizations that were creating real-time solutions and resources for our new neighbors. We are proud to support the efforts of the Refugee Empowerment Center, International Council for Refugees and Immigrants, Lutheran Family Services and the Omaha Community Foundation."
Other highlights of the Foundation’s 2021 giving includes:
- Invested $250,000 in a capital campaign to build a new school for the St. Augustine Indian Mission School in Winnebago, Nebraska
- $70,000 in support to the American National Red Cross in response to four natural disasters
- More than $150,000 in matching gifts, supporting personal charitable donations made by our associates
