Mutual of Omaha of Foundation Announces more than $5.5 Million in 2023 Community Investments - Mutual of Omaha Employees also Volunteered Nearly 12,000 Hours in 2023
(OMAHA, Neb.) – The Mutual of Omaha Foundation granted more than $5.5 million to more than 120 nonprofit organizations in 2023. Operating with a mission to break the cycle of poverty and invest in projects that strengthen the Omaha metropolitan area, the foundation provided grants that focus on basic needs, adult self-sufficiency, youth development, conservation and capital projects.
Local studies indicate the Omaha metro area lacks more than 100,000 units of safe and affordable housing,
said Gail Graeve, executive director of the Mutual of Omaha Foundation. To help close this gap, we prioritized a $150,000 grant supporting Habitat for Humanity of Omaha’s Bluestem Prairie Project. This innovative redevelopment provides an affordable pathway to homeownership within a new multi-generational community. By the end of 2025, 100 homes will stand in a neighborhood space that had been vacant, neglected and unsafe for over 15 years. This project is a game changer, and we are proud to invest in this work.
Other highlights of the Foundation’s 2023 giving include:
- Invested $2 million in capital campaigns supporting Youth Emergency Services, The Salvation Army, Immigrant Legal Center, Omaha Performing Arts and Habitat for Humanity
- Provided disaster funding to the American Red Cross, including $75,000 to support the response and rebuilding efforts in Maui, Hawaii
- Provided a grant of $100,000 to the National Park Foundation to support Landscape & Wildlife Conservation and safeguard some of the most biologically diverse and significant lands in our nation
- Gave more than $200,000 in matching gifts to nonprofits in 37 states, supporting personal charitable donations made by Mutual of Omaha employees
Mutual of Omaha’s volunteer time guidelines allow the company’s employees the opportunity to volunteer during the workday, on their own or with their work team, to give back in their communities. In 2023, Mutual of Omaha employees volunteered nearly 12,000 hours with more than 300 nonprofits across 34 states.
