In order to apply, we ask that organizations have a tax-exempt status under section 501 (c)(3). Preference is given to organizations seeking funding from a broad base of foundations, businesses and individuals.
While we wish that we could consider every type of program and organization for funding, we have a limited number of resources. As a result, we are unable to consider grant applications for the following:
- Programs that do not address one of the critical issues identified by the Mutual of Omaha Foundation
- Endowment funds
- Projects of religious denominations or sects, other than eligible educational, health or human service related projects
- Support of individuals including education, research or product development
- Travel for individuals or groups
- Event sponsorships, tickets/tables (to be considered for event sponsorships, please e-mail a message of intent to: community.affairs@mutualofomaha.com)
- Team sponsorships or athletic scholarships
- Political actions, candidates or lobbying efforts
- Groups, organizations or programs whose principal funding comes from federal, state or local taxes, except for certain activities of the state university system
- Requests for civic or commemorative advertising
- Social clubs, labor or fraternal organizations
- Festival participation
- The creation or maintenance of monuments or memorials
- Programs or organizations outside the Omaha/Council Bluffs metro area
Also, as a general rule, organizations with an “active” grant may not apply. An “active” grant is a grant in excess of $10,000 that has been received within the last 12 months. This grant will not be considered “closed” until a final report has been received on the project or organization for which the grant was provided. Organizations are asked to limit their requests to one application per calendar year.
