At the Mutual of Omaha Foundation, we want to go beyond just addressing the issues that families face – we want to help prevent them. That’s why we have placed a focus on education. We believe that education creates opportunity, enabling individuals to obtain employment and provide a decent living for themselves and their families.
Unfortunately, not all families have equal access and opportunity when it comes to education, which is why we are committed to addressing the following critical issues:
Early Childhood Education
Statistics show that early childhood education provides an important foundation that allows a child to succeed throughout their educational career. Our funding will focus on programs that provide early childhood education to children from underserved populations.
Preparedness for Graduation
Many of today’s students are facing increasing challenges when it comes to successfully graduating from high school – a trend resulting in alarming statistics revealing decreased graduation rates and increased drop-out rates. We will support programs and organizations that directly provide services to these at-risk youth with the goal of helping them stay in school.
Literacy/Language
In order to have a successful education and career, basic literacy and language skills are essential. Our funding will be directed to programs and organizations that help individuals suffering from illiteracy and language deficiencies.
Financial Literacy
For many families, the ability to succeed financially is significantly hampered by an inability to overcome large amounts of debt and save for the future. To help address these financial challenges, we will fund programs and organizations that educate families about fundamental financial matters like budgeting, saving, understanding credit and purchasing a home.
Learn how our funding helped the Midlands Council of Camp Fire USA in Omaha, Neb., provide quality early childhood education to an underserved population of students.
