About Us

Helping people in their time of need. It’s a simple principle that Mutual of Omaha was founded on more than 100 years ago. At the Mutual of Omaha Foundation, we are committed to extending that commitment long-term. Established in 2005, we have approved more than 400 grants that total $21.7 million.

We are guided by our mission and core values:

Our mission is to prevent and break the cycle of poverty for families in the Omaha metropolitan area.

Our core values are to operate with:

  • Honesty, Integrity and Respect – Transparency and respect for all guide us in every aspect of our operations
  • Compassion – The people being served will always be on the forefront of our decisions
  • Visionary Leadership – we will understand the needs in the community, current trends and encourage excellence
  • Collaboration – we will partner with our peers and nonprofit organizations to bring about meaningful change

Critical Issues
We envision a community where all people have access to the most basic necessities and are equipped with the tools and resources they need to be self-sufficient and ensure poverty becomes a thing of the past in our community. To accomplish this, we will support organizations that work to prevent and end homelessness, encourage self-sufficiency, provide educational support and prevent and end violence. Support will be provided to organizations that clearly and directly address one of the following critical issues facing families living in or at risk of poverty: homeless prevention, emergency shelter, food, literacy/language, workforce development, financial literacy, behavioral health, early childhood education, preparedness for graduation, youth violence and domestic abuse.
